Learn to Skate

The Alaska Association of Figure Skaters offers a Learn To Skate USA program for kids and adults interested in learning how to become figure skaters, hockey players, and for those who just want to have fun on the ice. Learn to Skate is your first step towards a lifelong enjoyment of ice skating.

Winter Session 1

Begins ​January 8 & 10, 2026

Thursday 5:15-6:45 Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills 

Thursday 6:15-7:30 Adult Basic Skills

Thursday 7:00-8:00 High Freeskate

Saturday 10:15-11:45 Snowplow Sam and Basic Skills 

Saturday 12:00-1:00 Low Freeskate

Six week session of classes on Thursday or Saturday. 

$90 Basic Skills

$108 Freeskate

$20 LTS-USA Membership Fee*

Registration opens on the last day of the previous session. Visit one of our in-person registrations to enroll your skater (or yourself). If you cannot attend in-person priority registration, please inquire via email at akicelessons@gmail.com if space is still available after priority registration ends. If space is available you can email it back to reserve a spot and pay the first day of class. We do not accept emailed forms until after in-person priority registration closes

All beginner skaters will need to wear gloves and we highly recommend a helmet.

Meet our Coaches

Become a Skater Volunteer

Skaters over the age of 12 can volunteer during our Learn to Skate sessions. These skater volunteers learn how to coach, build teamwork and leadership skills, and earn volunteer hours towards Tier IV.
